It would be good to confirm ... if you still have the devicemapper setup, run docker info 

I was pointed to this https://github.com/openshift/origin/issues/11016 but I don't think it's the same issue.  That one is docker daemon <--> kubelet interaction is slower.

I was using whatever is the default with Atomic docker-storage-setup.

It wasn't actually a rigourous test; I was mostly interested in
verifying that Overlay wasn't *slower*.  If we have a reason to want a
rigorous test, I'll playbook something and get numbers.
